REPORTS TO: Laboratory Manager

BASIC PURPOSE: At direction of laboratory manager, performs seafood inspections, sampling, quotations, and audits as assigned.  Where appropriate, perform microbiological and chemical analysis, and/or water analysis.


  1. With direction from, Laboratory Manager, perform seafood inspections for all species and product forms.
  2. Collect samples from client sites and transports back to lab or ship samples to appropriate laboratories for testing.
  3. Coordinates support in the processing of samples for the Surefish program. Duties include:
    1. Sample preparation
    2. Sample processing
    3. Data analysis and entry
  4. Perform daily inspections or testing according to standards and specific protocols.
  5. Ensure that instruments, vehicles and equipment are maintained and in proper operating condition and calibrated as needed.
  6. Ensure that all records, reports and photos are organized and accessible.
  7. Perform all applicable corporate and laboratory quality control procedures.
  8. Meet turnaround time commitments.
  9. Understand and follow established quality assurance and chain of custody procedures.
  10. Take action to correct all QA problems and potential delays, communicating the issue as appropriate.
  11. Review and update lab standard operating procedures.
  12. Perform other duties as requested.


  1. Minimum of three (3) years seafood production or QA/QC experience in multiple species and product forms.
  2. Knowledge and experience with laboratory QA/QC plans, manuals, and procedures,
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  5. Flexible and able to multitask
  6. Have a valid driver’s license


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in biology, microbiology or related area of science
  2. Working knowledge of HACCP and inspection/auditing experience
  3. Experience with GLP.
  4. Valid U.S. Passport or ability to obtain a valid U.S. Passport


  1. Capable of lifting 40-50 lbs on a routine basis.
  2. Occasional lifting of 70 lbs on a repeated basis
  3. Extensive physical effort.
  4. Ability to travel by plane or automobile, domestically and internationally as needed.
  5. Handling hazardous microbiological materials
  6. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab area


  1. Work is performed in a laboratory environment (may be cold & wet)
  2. Multi-tasking environment
  3. Some work is performed offsite
  4. Smoke free work environment
