POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Financial Officer position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Planning

  • Assist in formulating the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Develop financial and tax strategies.
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Operations

  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team.
  • Manage the accounting and oversee the financial operations of subsidiary companies.
  • Oversee the company’s transaction processing systems.
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and assist in the negotiate acquisitions.
  • 401k Plan Management
  • Other duties as assigned.

Financial Information

  • Oversee the issuance of financial information.
  • Personally review and approve all financial state and federal regulatory reporting.
  • Report financial results to the board of directors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile.
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that financial record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Funding

  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.
  • Arrange for debt and equity financing.
  • Invest funds.
  • Invest pension funds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Third Parties

  • Participate in conference calls with the investment community.
  • Maintain banking relationships.
  • Represent the company with investment bankers and investors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Qualifications: The Chief Financial Officer should have experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.

Additional Qualifications: May take on the role of the controller.

Education:  Master’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.

Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation. Prior experience in fishing industry, native organizations, and/or corporate level experience is preferred.  Equivalent education and training may be substituted for experience.

Other Skills

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under APICDA’s  insurance policy.
  • Ability to learn general knowledge of APICDA communities, geographical locations, fisheries and tourism.
  • Ability to deal calmly and effectively in high stress situations.
  • Development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and processes.

 Work Environment:

  • Requires working in an office environment.
  • Requires the ability to plan, organize and delegate projects in fast paced environment.
  • Must be available to work varied and extended hours.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively at a distance with supervisor, staff, vendors, vessel operators and village residents.
  • Requires stair climbing.
  • Periodic lifting and carrying less than 50 pounds.
  • Looking at computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Repetitive motion with arms, hands, and fingers in workspace and on keyboard.
